SNES always had the better MK. I will say that MK3 on Genesis was surprisingly good. I remember when it hit the shelves in the stores, I was expecting it to be a train wreck like MK2 was. However, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Shao Kahn speak the names of the characters and all the voices that were kept. Then I played the SNES version and as soon as I heard that Subway music I was hooked. The Genesis had great games that pushed its tech, but the same could be said about the SNES. When going head to head, the Genesis put up a very good fight, but the SNES just always had that extra edge over the Genesis, ESPECIALLY when it came to sound. The Genesis could NEVER pump out a Donkey Kong Country 2 or Killer Instinct.

I'm enjoying this romhack on my RG35XX-H handheld, but I'm unable to progress past the fifth match without continuing, which is unfortunate.

Right up there with “Scorpion’s animality is not a scorpion,” has always been “Baraka’s friendship is not cutting out paper dolls” (especially since Sheeva gets scorpion and Jax gets paper dolls).

Reptile was fighting like he was still the hidden boss in the original game. 😬 Sub-Zero's moves looked 🆒 in this version.

I have this on my Miyoo Mini. You might also like MK+ it's very similar to your previous video with Reptile available and also UMK3+

I always felt like they added a bunch of goofy sound effects for mk2 that were never in mk1, the sweep fall being one of them, kinda takes you out of the gruesome nature of the game

I have the Mortal Kombat II deluxe cabinet by Tastemakers/Arcade1up and I didn't build it yet, I have several other Arcade1up cabinets built. And I had the MKII deluxe for about a year. I just have the parts in my room where the other cabinets are. It has MK 1, 2, 3, Ultimate 3 and 10 other Atari and Midway games from mostly the 80's. Like Paperboy, Root Beer Tapper and Toobin'. It's 5 feet tall, but narrower than a real arcade cabinet.

I absolutely loathed the Genesis version. Believe you said the SNES version was grainy, but damn, the Genesis version must be oatmeal 😂. Side note: you’d be the chillest neighbor ever. I’m a MK super fan with a full arcade room my friends make fun of me for. Love the content!

Cage is trash

Extra moves are stuff that some characters got from later games like Baraka's spin attack from MKT, Scorpion's forward teleport punch from MKT and the bosses have at least one Fatality, the new AI is a good idea to get used because IT'S needed to unlock both Kintaro and Shao Kahn in Survival Mode once you have unlocked Jade, Noob and Smoke (Smoke being the harder one to unlock due to the RNG hell that is to have a flying object at the moon in Pit 2 and getting double flawless victory and Fatality on your winning round... but you CANNOT USE the Stage Fatality in that scenario and you have to win the secret character battle, Noob as long as you do the AI exploit with Jax you beat it fast, same with Jade and you can potentially unlock at least 2 of the 3 in a single arcade run... must be a 1 credit run by the way). Edit: If you want an easy time unlocking both Jade and Noob, is a good idea to use Jax, and have the difficulty on ULTIMATE, that way from the get-go you can use the AI exploits with the original AI behavior, you have to beat the game in around 11 minutes or less to unlock Noob, for Jade just defeat her when you have disabled the randomized ladders.

14:26 Something that does not come through on the vid, but was to my mind one of the most awesome sound features on the snes was stereo positioning of the characters. Why they decided to add it, I have no clue, but it was awsome... [as a visual impaired player, this was the first mk that really truly captured me for the 100 percent]

The roll fatality doesn't make sense. Spikes never played a role in her lore. Also i didn't see how she was "vicious" in this play at all. Her leg teleport actually missed most of the time. Animations are stiff during combos and fatalities. These games almost are disrespectful to the developers. If your going to do these games, out do the originals, not make them worse.

Never knew this version existed and I've played almost every version of mortal kombat in existence lol gonna have to add this to my list thanks lol

Had both when i was 8....well i mean my one brother had it on SNES and my 2nd brother had it on SEGA....my opinion...SNES, easy!

These graphics are atrocious.

I was a SEGA kid back in the 90s, the genesis is my favorite console after the ps1, but i really must say that the Snes was in general the best 16 bit console, it was kinda the cutting edge, but funny enough it lacked stuff the Genesis had that made it look close to arcades, mostly in the gameplay aspect but sometimes even the Genesis had better graphics, overall, i would say the Snes had the graphics and the Genesis the gameplay, but really, both were feel from different moments, the Snes was more modern than the Genesis, and even when the Snes really had more games, more platformers, fighting games, beat em ups and rpgs, the Genesis had such strong representatives of each genre that people still keeps on refering to stuff like Streets of Rage, Shining Force or Phantasy Star or Aladdin, but with stuff like the latter 94-96 games the Snes showed that was more advance, mario rpg, Donkey Kong and in general the fighting games looked better, even when the genesis was more hardcore with the shoot em ups, like Shadow Dancer, Musha and others

Sounds, graphics and gameplay is great in this MK. I like it very much.

Hmmm I agree for the most part about your assessment, with maybe a little scoring change. I'd probably give the SNES a 4.0 for both graphics and sound instead of 3.5. Genesis 3.5 and 3.5. For controls I'd say they are both great, but I'd give the edge to the Genesis, so SNES 4.5, Genesis 5.0. Overall I would give SNES 4.5 and Genesis 4.0. Final SNES 17/20 Genesis 16/20.

Always had love/hate relation with this game. I've grown with Sega MK ports and if MK1 and MK2 in my opinion was better on SNES, for MK3 and Ultimate they pretty much both meh. Though SNES controller is much better for this game than Sega's standard 6 button controller. I actually used 3rd party controller with different button layout, which in general was better than official one.

Another important thing to mention. The Genesis version controls just as well as the SNES version, but the same cannot be said about the Mega Drive version. Genesis was only in the US, and this has a higher clock speed, which gives the edge on controls responsiveness. The Mega Drive is slightly underclocked and thus the game mechanics are a bit slowed down. The difference is really minor, but during gameplay you really feel the difference.

Liu Kang's blue pants almost look like camouflage on the Pit stage.

To summarize the sound comparison between the SNES version and the Genesis version, I’d say the SNES version sounds muffled, while the Genesis version sounds earraping. I’m talking about the voiceovers by the way.

Mk2 was insane when it came out. The colors, the deep crisp almost horror music. This game in the arcade was so huge. It's my favorite one.
